Proportion Word Problems

Make Me a Match

Proportion word problems are all about noticing relationships. Do you see a repeated relationship? Then you've got a proportion.

LEARN IT:

Watch out for the same relationship repeated in a word problem. For example, they might tell you that a certain paint contains 3 parts of white paint for every 1 part of blue paint, then ask how many gallons of blue paint you'll need when using 12 gallons of white paint. I see the relationship of blue paint to white paint used twice here. It's proportion time!
