Abstract:
Every adult education classroom harbors some students lost in a sea of symbols. Often, no matter how much they study, math, especially algebra, just doesn’t seem to stick. Whether the root is dyscalculia, another learning disability, or educational trauma, the effect is the same: a lot of seemingly fruitless struggle. Attempts to compensate through rote memorizations, tips, and shortcuts often leave students and their instructors frustrated and hopeless. There is hope! In this series of 4 web-based trainings, we’ll practice simple, easily implemented strategies to revolutionize your mathematics instruction by increasing your students' symbolic fluency.
