Slope as a Rate of Change
Slope as a Rate of Change
Slope can be thought of as a measure of how fast something is changing. This understanding is especially important when faced with word problems.
LEARN IT
In a word problem or application problem the slope is the rate of change, how fast a situation increases or decreases. Look for the key word "per" to help identify a rate of change. Miles per gallon, dollars per hour, calories per meal, and words per minute are all examples of commonplace rates of change.
